Keeping Fighting The Good Fight

By Rob Ashcraft, CISO at KeyStone Solutions

I want to encourage you all to keep fighting the good fight and continue your vigilance against cyber threats. In light of the persistent evolution of cybercrime and the increasing sophistication of attacks, a continuous and proactive approach to cybersecurity is essential. Demonstrating due diligence is not merely a compliance requirement or a best practice. It is a fundamental responsibility that safeguards a company’s reputation, financial stability, and operational continuity. Business leaders must recognize that cyber threats are not “isolated incidents” but rather constant and evolving risks that require sustained attention and investment.

What Does This Mean for Your Business?

I encourage you to read this article in Insurance Business Magazine, as it highlights the ongoing vulnerability of small businesses to cyberattacks, even with increased awareness and preparation. Although the median cost of cyberattacks for small businesses has decreased, the median number of attacks has risen sharply. In fact, 41% of small businesses experienced a cyberattack in last year’s survey! What this means for your business is stressing the importance of continued investment in cybersecurity, employee training, and insurance to protect the organization from the increasingly complex cyber threats such as AI-enhanced phishing emails.

Here are my key takeaways from this article:

  • Small businesses are highly vulnerable to cyberattacks with 41% falling victim in 2023.
  • The median cost of cyberattacks has decreased but the number of attacks has increased.
  • Phishing remains the primary point of vulnerability and AI is making it harder to detect.
  • Investing in cybersecurity, training, and insurance is crucial for protection.
  • Better trained employees are a key defense against cyber losses.
